The American Embassy was finally allowed to see Brian. He is being kept in a room with 9 other foreign detainees none of whom were people he knew. He sent personal messages to both his wife and sister. He is being treated OK, if being detained against your will can be described as OK. He is supposed to be released and then deported on August 30th via a plane to NYC. The embassy is currently trying to find out which airport so that he can have a large welcoming comittee.

For those of you who know Brian, he did not take long to make new friends. One of his fellow detainees is a Lebanese gentleman who has been detained for 58 days. Brian is the first Arabic speaker that he has had access to, so you can just imagine the conversations. At least he'll be able to focus on something other than his own condition. His mother and I are very proud of our son and hope to see him soon. His mother will be traveling to see Brian's wife and will be meeting him at the airport. We are trying to get family members to contact their congressmen and voice their concerns about his detention.
